A Broken Heart

I thought love was pure
and I thought it was true
I was strong and free
but then I met you.

You seemed so perfect.
I thought you were sincere.
I wanted to hear only truth
so your lies I didn't hear.

You treated me bad
but I wanted you to stay.
So I sacrificed
but you turned away.

Why'd you have to leave me
when you could stay?
You didn't have to hurt me
then walk away.

I still don't understand
why you acted this way.
You destroyed me and left.
That’s all there is to say.

You turned away from opportunity
to talk and work things through
but you won't know how I feel
until the same thing happens to you.

Cause when you love somebody
and they go ahead and leave
without word or explanation
maybe then you'll see.

Then maybe you'll realize,
somehow, somewhere,
that true love is forever strong
and maybe then you'll care.

Cause you can't say I love you
then leave the next day.
You shouldn't have said you cared
if you were going to steal my heart away.

I'm not writing this to say I'm sorry
cause I did nothing wrong.
I don't regret what happened
cause this is where we belong

But if you had a drop of love
or kindness in you,
You surely would have known
the right thing to do.

But you've had your chance
and now it's too late
because a person who can never give true love
can only end up with hate.

Now that I've said all this,
now that I've spoken;
I hope I'll save another heart
from being broken.
